Choosing a Washer-Free Garden Tap

What does washer-free mean?

A traditional washer-operated tap closes by pressing a washer against the tap seat. XValve uses a different spindle sealing action, controlled with half a turn of the handle. You may also see this type of product described as a washerless garden tap.

What to check before ordering

1. The tap you are replacing. XValve garden taps replace standard existing garden taps with matching connections.
2. The water-supply connection. Have the connection and required thread specification checked for the installation.
3. The hose-side connection. Check the hose connector, sprinkler or watering device separately from the supply fitting.
4. Space around the handle. Consider access to the tap and the room needed to operate it comfortably.
5. The correct fitting instructions. Match the instructions to the exact product code before arranging the work.

If your existing tap is difficult to turn

XValve’s half-turn action controls the flow without repeatedly winding the handle. When choosing a tap, consider the handle shape, how easily you can reach it and the action that suits your use. The half-turn action may suit people who find conventional taps difficult to turn, including some people with arthritis.
